| Summary, etc. | Este libro aborda la narrativa de Puerto Rico, que nace transatlántica con el Álbum puertorriqueño (Barcelona, 1844) y La peregrinación de Bayoán (Madrid, 1863), por obra de quienes, desde la todavía colonia, viajaban a España para educarse o intervernir en política. El hilo que unió la isla con la antigua metrópoli funcionó sin solución de continuidad durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, a pesar del 98, y nombres como Balseiro, Marqués, Díaz Valcárcel o Vico Sánchez lo confirman. El exilio republicano (Zenobia y Juan Ramón, Salinas, Guillén, Ayala, Aurora de Albornoz...) fecundó la cultura isleña como secuela de la política de intercambios propiciada por el Centro de Estudios Hispánicos (1910) y Federico de Onís. No obstante, la nueva fórmula política (Estado Libre Asociado, 1952) parece cerrar el vaivén transatlántico: Estados Unidos absorbe emigrantes y estudiosos. Pero ciertos modelos culturales de la vieja Europa siguen interesando al intelectual isleño, con excelentes resultados en una narrativa pujante. |
