| Summary, etc. | Esta no es la Historia de Hawaii, tampoco es la historia del Estado 50 de Hawaii, esta es una historia del Reino de Hawaii y de los habitantes originarios de las islas de Hawaii, los cuales se conocen como "Kanaka Maoli" o "Kanaka 'Oiwi", y que fueron desplazados de sus tierras paulatinamente por una minoría blanca que llegaron a Hawaii como misioneros a través de la Junta Americana de Comisionados para Misiones Extranjeras (ABCFM) a principios del siglo XIX. Los sucesos que aquí se narran forman parte de la segunda etapa expansionista de Estados Unidos conocida como la Era del Imperio (1880-1917). Esa segunda etapa imperialista incluyó a Alaska, Hawaii, Samoa, Filipinas, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam y el Canal de Panamá. En 1893 los descendientes de los misioneros respaldados e inducidos por las fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos le dieron un golpe a de estado a la Reina Lilluokalani y establecieron un Gobierno Provisional, en 1894 establecieron una República, en 1898 anexaron las islas, en 1900 declararon Territorio a Hawaii y en 1959 lo convirtieron en el Estado 50. Los Kanaka Maoli perdieron el control de su tierra, su agua, su soberanía, su independencia y su Reino. Su cultura fue erosionada y su población diezmada. |
