| Summary, etc. | La confesión es un rasgo distintivo de la Iglesia católica. Este hecho posee, aparte de sus connotaciones teológicas, unas considerables implicaciones sociales: establece una comunicación especialmente íntima entre el individuo y la institución eclesiástica, lo libera de su culpa, a la vez que lo ata al sacramento. Otorga al individuo libre albedrío para elegir su salvación a costa de sacrificar su intimidad frente al confesor. Al adoptar la confesión obligatoria anual en el siglo XIII, la Iglesia romana no valoró la avalancha de problemas que iban a desencadenar LAS DIFICULTADES DE LA CONFESIÓN —la evaluación de las faltas, la apreciación del arrepentimiento, etc. JEAN DELUMEAU describe la vivencia de la confesión en la vida cotidiana: ¿cuál fue el comportamiento real de los confesores?, ¿cómo vivieron los creyentes la obligación de la confesión? Los consejos de escucha benevolente dados a los confesores reflejan claramente la dificultad psicológica de la confesión, especialmente de los pecados sexuales. LA CONFESIÓN Y EL PERDÓN recupera de forma magistral los vivos debates que se plantearon entre benevolencia y exigencia, entre apertura y cerrazón, entre moral de la comprensión y rigidez elitista, y que en buena medida subsisten hasta nuestros días. |
