| Summary, etc. | Orígenes, hijo de mártir, impulsor de vocaciones martiriales y testigo de cristo hasta el quebranto total de la salud, fue sin duda el principal exponente de la llamada Escuela de Alejandría. Probablemente, la helenizada capital de Egipto le vio nacer allá por el año 185. A los dieciocho años. Demetrio, obispo de Alejandría, le encomendó la instrucción de los catecúmenos que se preparaban para el bautismo, y fue tal el éxito cosechado por este joven catequista que lo que era una simple escuela de catequesis se convirtió muy pronto en una verdadera escuela de teología, en la que se cultivaba con especial predilección el estudio de la Sagrada Escritura. Cuando el alejandrino ─por imperativos episcopales─ se ve obligado a abandonar su patria lleva consigo su ciencia y metodología. Ya asentado en Cesarea de Palestina y ordenado sacerdote, incorpora a su tarea de maestro una intensa actividad homilética. A ella pertenecen esta Homilías sobre el Génesis que hoy ven la luz en lengua castellana. Si algún libro del Antiguo Testamento despertó más interés entre los intérpretes de la antigüedad cristiana, ese fue el libro del Génesis. Orígenes, como buen predicador y mejor maestro, va recorriendo las páginas genesíacas sin esquivar las dificultades planteadas por el texto, iluminando sus enigmas, ofreciendo una interpretación lúcida del mismo, procurando siempre el provecho espiritual de sus oyentes sin ahorrarles amonestaciones enojosas y exhortándoles a penetrar sin descanso en los tesoros nunca del todo explorados de la Sabiduría divina. |
