El presente diccionario no se concibió para sustituir a un tratado de botánica, sino para determinar el valor exacto de cada término técnico, sus límites conceptuales y su etimología. El diccionario incluye alrededor de 18.000 voces, sin contar las numerosas expresiones derivadas de algunas de ellas. La mayoría de términos que pueden ser objeto de representación gráfica van acompañados de su correspondiente figura; en conjunto la obra comprende un millar de diseños escogidos entre los más adecuados, de los que aproximadamente la mitad son originales. El diccionario de botánica propiamente dicho va seguido de un vocabulario ideológico, en el que las 18.000 voces de aquél aparecen ordenadas por conceptos, lo que permitirá hallar las voces correspondientes a una idea determinada, esto es, sinónimos, antónimos y palabras más o menos afines. |
