| Summary, etc. | Casi un centenar de especies de medusas, desde la omnipresente Aurelia a la enigmática Velella, con asombrosos datos sobre estas fascinantes formas de vida marinas. Las medusas tienen una deslumbrante variedad de colores, formas y tamaños. Viven a la deriva en todos los océanos, desde la superficie hasta las mayores profundidades de los mares, e incluso se encuentran en el agua dulce. No es de extrañar que estas antiguas criaturas, también denominadas aguasmalas, tan luminosas y que se asemejan a extraterrestres, a menudo se comparen con los seres míticos de formas cambiantes. Algunas especies son tan delicadas que se rompen en el agua ante la menor perturbación, mientras que otras son tan resistentes que pueden soportar casi cualquier temperatura, cualquier salinidad e incluso la inanición. Otras son en verdad biológicamente inmortales. Las hay espléndidas, extrañas, muchas urticantes, algunas mortales, otras portan sorprendentes secretos y algunas son apenas conocidas, pero todas y cada una de ellas tienen notables historias que contar. |
