| Summary, etc. | ATanasio de Alejandría (295-373) puede considerarse como la figura más sobresaliente de la Iglesia durante todo el siglo IV. Su vida fue de una intrepidez y de una coherencia impresionantes, por lo que constituye un modelo de obispo fundamentalmente válido para todos los tiempos. La encarnación del Verbo forma la segunda parte de una obra más amplia que incluye también el tratado Contra los paganos (publicado en esta colección con el número 19), y que Atanasio escribió durante su primer destierro, en los años 335-337. Dirigido a un mundo todavía sin evangelizar, el tratado apunta a lo esencial: presenta una exposición orgánica de la fe cristiana, que asume como punto de referencia la manifestación del Verbo en la carne. El Verbo ─dice en síntesis Atanasio─ se ha revelado en un cuerpo para restituir al hombre, creado de la nada y formado a imagen de Dios, la incorruptibilidad y el conocimiento del Padre. Es decir, mediante su cuerpo, el Verbo paga la deuda del hombre pecador y vence la muerte, y así reconquista el don de la inmortalidad y lo transmite a todo el género humano. Se trata de un escrito profundo y vigoroso, que tuvo una gran difusión en la antigüedad y que todavía hoy sigue siendo de gran actualidad. La presente traducción es la primera que se publica en lengua castellana. |
