| Summary, etc. | ¿Qué es lo que nuestro siglo ha agregado a lo que siempre hemos sabido acerca de la aterradora cantidad de fechorías que los hombres son capaces de cometer? ¿Qué ha aportado de inédito a lo que siempre hemos sabido (o creído saber) acerca de lo que el hombre puede hacer al hombre? En el siglo XX, los ±campos donde Estados y regímenes políticos programaron la aniquilación del hombre revelaron la ±condición inhumana . La historia adoptó la apariencia ya no del destino (tal como lo había anunciado Hegel), sino del terror. Por eso la pregunta: ¿Hemos visto surgir aquí la figura excepcional del mal, del mal en una violencia y un horror sin precedentes? ¿O bien estamos aquí, como afirma Hannah Arendt, simplemente ante la banalidad del mal? Myriam Revault d Allonnes toma como punto de partida esta expresión, cuyo sentido se desgastó aun antes de haber sido comprendido, para tratar de analizar lo que el hombre puede hacer al hombre, es decir, la virtualidad siempre presente del mal político. Para entender el presente de ese mal es preciso reabrir el pasado, remontarse al mal radical según Kant, volver también al lazo entre lo trágico y la capacidad de institución política en Aristóteles, y luego releer a los modernos, como Hobbes y dos de sus grandes comentaristas: Carl Smith y Leo Strauss. Encontraremos en esta lectura inédita, como un hilo conductor, la idea de una humanidad desprovista de toda pretensión de inocencia, de una humanidad de vuelta al mal de la libertad (de su libertad) y, por lo tanto, a su poder de obrar. |
