Tradicionalmente los sociólogos buscaron explicar los motivos que inducían a una persona a desviarse de las reglas. Pero fue el trabajo pionero de Howard Becker, en los años sesenta, el que permitió desplazar el foco de atención hacia quienes hacen o proponen las normas, por considerar que es tan importante estudiar a quienes infringen la ley como a quienes definen qué es delito y qué no. Analizar la interacción entre unos y otros es el único modo de no caer en una visión moralista o apologética del fenómeno de la desviación: ¿cómo se ven entre sí los infractores de las normas y los encargados de defender su cumplimiento?, ¿Quiénes establecen y promueven las leyes, y qué los impulsa a hacerlo? El autor indaga, entre otros, el caso de los consumidores de marihuana, revelando cómo se inician en esa práctica. cómo la posición de asumen ante los controles sociales les permite disfrutar de esa experiencia o alejarse de ella, cómo se vinculan con los valores convencionales y con los de su grupo de pertenencia.<br/> |
