La presente obra recoge las reflexiones en formato epistolar del papa Francisco, surgidas a raíz de épocas tumultuosas para la Iglesia, tanto pasadas como presentes. En ellas se refleja la personalidad y el pensamiento de Francisco, así como su modo de afrontar las tribulaciones. El volumen está dividido en dos partes: la primera consiste en una colección de ocho cartas de dos padres generales de la Compañía de Jesús, Lorenzo Ricci y Jan Roothaan. Surgidas en los siglos XVIII y XIX, las cartas fueron escritas en momentos en que nos la Compañía sufrió turbaciones, persecuciones y dudas. Asimismo, constituyen un tratado acerca de la tribulación y el modo de sobrellevarla. Las'cartas de la tribulación'propuestas en la segunda parte del libro fueron escritas después del viaje de Francisco a Chile y Perú en enero de 2018. En ellas, el Papa asume la responsabilidad y encara la'vergüenza'del escándalo de los abusos a menores cometidos por prelados en Chile y su mala gestión posterior. Con una sólida guía de lectura por parte de tres jesuitas -el P. Antonio Spadaro, el P. Diego Fares y el P. James Hanvey- la lectura de este volumen ofrece una profunda reflexión con destellos de esperanza ante los acontecimientos de mayor desolación para la Iglesia. |
