| Summary, etc. | ¿Por qué hacemos lo que hacemos? Esta es la pregunta que se intenta responder en esta obra. Sin duda es una cuestión central en psicología y se cuenta entre los retos de una ciencia que busca mejorar la vida de las personas. A través de seis dimensiones (instinto-aprendizaje, pasividad-actividad, extrínseco-intrínseco, inconsciente-consciente, individuo-sociedad y aproximación-evitación), en el libro se repasan conceptos y teorías básicas de la motivación. Aunque dichos conceptos se contextualizan en su momento histórico, el texto se centra en su valor como instrumentos interpretativos de la conducta humana. Está dirigido fundamentalmente a estudiantes de Psicología y Ciencias de la Salud, y grados afines como Pedagogía, Sociología o Trabajo Social. Incluye tanto investigaciones recientes en ámbitos de la neurociencia cognitiva como las reflexiones más amplias sobre la psicología evolucionista, el conductismo, el psicoanálisis, la perspectiva cognitiva de la motivación y la teoría de la autodeterminación. La obra también puede ser atractiva para un lector no universitario que quiera acercarse al conocimiento sobre el ser humano: ¿Dónde surgen los deseos? ¿Estamos determinados por nuestra genética? ¿Cuáles son los mecanismos cognitivos que determinan la aproximación o la evitación a estímulos? ¿Por qué son tan importantes las metas y los planes en la satisfacción vital?
