| Summary, etc. | Existen diversas razones para embarcarnos en este proceso de redactar un libro sobre la historia de los bancos en la ciudad de Mayagüez. Primero, documentar y evidenciar la importancia a través de la historia ha tenido la ciudad de Mayagüez en el desarrollo de instituciones financieras para servir al pueblo. Segundo, se buscó documentar la historia de los bancos que, durante décadas de los ochenta, noventa y primera década del siglo XXI convertían a la ciudad de Mayagüez en un vigoroso centro de actividad financiera y comercial. Tercero, se busca documentar el nacimiento y la desaparición de los bancos mayaguezanos Ahorro del Oeste, Comercial de Mayagüez y Westernbank que por casi setenta años fueron instituciones líderes de la zona oeste y cuya desaparición dejó un gran vacío en la economía de mi querida ciudad de Mayagüez. Finalmente, se busca hacer una humilde aportación a la escasa documentación que existe de las actividades bancarias que sido piedra angular en el desarrollo del país en el pasado siglo. -- Backcover. |
