| Summary, etc. | Estas son las memorias de Gervasio Antonio García Díaz (1854-1944), primer alcalde de Caguas al iniciarse el siglo 20. Recogen sus iniciativas modernizadoras para la ciudad, vivencias y vicisitudes al frente de la alcaldía durante los años 1899 a 1906 y 1910 a 1913, los primeros bajo la dominación norteamericana y después de que la isla fuera azotada por el terrible huracán San Ciriaco en agosto de 1899. Aparte del afán modernizador que fue la nota predominante de su gestión administrativa, recrean las condiciones sociales y el clima político en la urbe bajo la nueva metrópoli. El manuscrito fue editado y anotado meticulosamente por la historiadora María de los Ángeles Castro Arroyo, quien también escribió la nota introductoria. |
