Este libro es una radiografía que se le hace a algunos de los muchos abusos y atropellos que se han cometido contra el independentismo puertorriqueño a lo largo de más de un siglo de ocupación militar estadounidense; en este caso por hechos tan inocentes como escribir una canción, montar una representación teatral, una coreografía de baile… El libro echa un amplio vistazo a todo el espectro persecutorio, pero se concentra, como dice su título, en las canciones carpeteadas y los artistas subversivos.<br/><br/>Para elaborar esta minuciosa investigación, que en primera intancia fue disertación doctoral, Mayi Marrero hizo uso aproximadamente de unas 20 carpetas de subversivos, unas grupales o colectivas, de organizaciones como: la FUPI, el MPI, el PSP, el Consejo General de Estudiantes de la UPR y la Juventud Católica; y otras individuales, de líderes independentistas como: Juan mari Bras, Eugenio Cuebas Arbona y Julio Antonio Muriente Pérez. También utilizó carpetas de intérpretes de la Canción de Protesta, Nueva Trova o Nueva Canción, tales como Noel Hernández, Silverio Pérez Figueroa, José Nogueras Vega, Josy Latorre y Estrella Artau Pacheco.<br/><br/>Este libro es un trabajo que era mandatorio hacer.
