| Summary, etc. | Son redacciones frescas y a veces inconexas, pues don Luis escribió apoyándose en breves apuntes que ha guardado en sus archivos, así como de su sorprendente memoria. No obstante, aunque no estamos ante un "tratado"de derecho o legajos de jurisprudentes, son escritos fundamentados en la praxis del "derecho rogado" que impera en Puerto Rico. El amigo Abréu Elías, sin ánimo de torizar sobre las materias que ocupan a un abogado defensor, expresa monda y lirondamente sus secretos de oficio. Una cosa es el Derecho en teoría, otra es el Derecho en la práctica. En general estas estampas pueden servir de guía al novel abogado. Está implícito que no basta la jaibería del picapleitos: hay que estudiar, leer, investigar. La verdadera justicia consiste en dar a cada cual su merecido. Para lograr este propósito se necesita desarrollar el sentido de prudencia y, cuando haya dudas, inclinarnos por el lado de la misericordia, tal como Alonso Quijano recomienda a Sancho en el episodio de la Ínsula Barataria. |
