| Summary, etc. | "Como afirma su preparador, José Miguel Oviedo, la presente Antología crítica del cuento hispanoamericano del siglo XIX no es una colección de los grandes «cuentistas» del periodo, sino de un número de los mejores relatos del mismo, seleccionados por las cualidades intrínsecas del texto desde la perspectiva del lector moderno. Precedidos de una amplia introducción y agrupados por «ciclos» -romanticismo, realismo, modernismo, criollismo-, cada una de las narraciones va acompañada de una presentación y de una bibliografía selecta. Los nombres de Ricardo Palma, Gutiérrez Nájera, Rubén Darío, Amado Nervo, Lugones u Horacio Quiroga demuestran el hondo arraigo del relato corto en América y ayudan a comprender su floración en el siglo xx, de la que se da cabal muestra, en esta misma colección, en los dos volúmenes de «Antología crítica del cuento hispanoamericano del siglo xx» (LB 1585 y LB 1586), a cargo del propio J. M. Oviedo". |
