"Este libro es una aportación al debate histórico-religioso de Puerto Rico durante el período turbulento de la Guerra Fría. Aquí quedan al descubierto personajes, episodios y conflictos hasta ahora no documentados por la historiografía nacional. En esta investigación se recogió el trabajo pastoral, que incluyó un conjunto de expresiones políticas y sociales, de una generación de religiosos, religiosas, sacerdotes, monjas, seminaristas y laicos que articularon un discurso y una praxis rebelde y contestataria durante la Guerra Fría.<br/><br/>Durante las décadas de 1960 y 1970, algunos sectores importantes del catolicismo defendieron un trabajo pastoral de liberación en medio de las condiciones políticas que trajo consigo el período de la Guerra Fría. Estos sectores, estudiados ampliamente en el libro, defendieron un discurso puertorriqueñista y a favor de las luchas sociales, sindicales, culturales y estudiantiles durante los años 1960 y 1970. Además, estos sectores católicos defendieron una nueva Iglesia, más democrática y más cercana a los pobres". |
