| Summary, etc. | "¿Por qué Filipinas se convirtió en una nación independiente, bajo la tutela de los Estados Unidos, y Puerto Rico no? Este libro documenta el rol del Senador Millard Tydings durante el proceso de radicación y discusión de un proyecto para concederle la independencia a Puerto Rico en 1936, 1943 y 1945, respectivamente. Tydings había sido en 1934 autor de la legislación que dirigió a Filipinas hacia su independencia y promotor de igual solución al dilema colonial de los Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico. Nuestra investigación discute las repercusiones en Puerto Rico de la radicación del primer proyecto Tydings de independencia de 1936 y sus versiones posteriores de 1943,1945 y 1946 y describe el proceso de diseño e implementación de la política [policy] de los Estados Unidos como potencia colonial en los años previos a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, a través de las acciones y pensamientos de uno de los actores principales de este drama: el senador Millard Tydings". |
