"Los estudios del profesor Oquendo Rodríguez sobre el desarrollo socioeconómico de los partidos sureños de Ponce y Guayama sobresalen por la rigurosidad metodológica y estructura narrativa. En esta obra en particular, se destaca su carácter comparativo, sobre los roles de los cónsules y agentes comerciales insulares, específicamente norteamericanos, en los partidos urbanos antes mencionados, que a mi juicio abr brechas en lo que denomino historias compartidas, poco usual en la bibliografía histórica de ambos poblados".
