| Summary, etc. | Los barrios son parte esencial de nuestra vida cotidiana. Vivimos, nacimos, morimos -en fin- somos de los barrios. Estas 899 unidades compactas y poco uniformes que llamamos barrios comprenden la totalidad del territorio puertorriqueño --<br/>Esta obra es la síntesis de una investigación sobre los orígenes, la evolución, la configuración y la toponimia de los barrios rurales de Puerto Rico. Subraya la importancia de los barrios como la más antigua división territorial local; define sus patrones de evolución, sus múltiples funciones, y su admirable persistencia; yos ubica i como piezas vitales para armar el rompecabezas de nuestra historia, particularmente la poco documentada historia rural, y la historia perdida de los Siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII --<br/>Los nombres de los barrios sirven para recorrer la línea de los tiempos en sentido inverso.
